Barbara Freifeld: Looking forward to meeting those I knew and I didn't know from 1955-1959. I am retired from one of my jobs and am greatly enjoying my second career and the time I have for further exploring the wonderful possibilities of life. Jack Cascardi: I have been married for 27 years, and have two children, Michael and Alicia. Michael is a senior at the Juilliard School and Alicia will begin her freshman year at Binghamton University in the fall. My wife Susan is from Far Rockaway and is a New York City teacher. I have worked for Nassau County for 33 years and look forward to retirement when my children finish college. |

In August we celebrated our 10th anniversary. My daughter, Jane, is 24 and is a chip off the old block. Jane just moved to Charlotte, NC. She is in communications marketing and was a college ski racer. My first wife Ronnie died when Jane was four in 1979. I still enjoy downhill skiing and skied with Bob Lewitt and Herbie Cohn last March at Tahoe. ![]() | Art Emsig: Art, to family and friends, lives in Dix Hills, NY, and has been happily married to MaryAnn Taub (LHS Class of '61) for 33 years. Her parents owned the "Hamburger Express" in Cedarhurst Village during the 1950's where many of us went for lunch during our junior and senior years at Lawrence, when we had our own transportation. He owns and operates his own communications and audio-visual business dealing in home theater and telephone systems. His son, Ira, who lives in Tucson, Arizona, just turned 27 on April 10th. Ira is a medical laboratory technician at the University of Arizona Medical Center, where he is also presently undergoing treatment for Hodgkin's Lymphoma. His progress has been very good and the prognosis is excellent for his full recovery. Art would like to open a summer camp for gifted and talented boys and girls age 12 to 16, specializing in TV and motion picture special effects and related fields. [Do you remember "You Can't Take It With You", our senior play at Lawrence?] This is an untapped segment of the lucrative summer camp industry and has attracted the attention of some veterans of the camp industry. "There are plenty of kids out there who are not "jocks or star athletes", just chomping at the bit for a chance at a summer program like this", said Dan Schliftman, former CEO of Atari Computer Camps and Weight Watcher's Camps. Raising capital for this venture has proven difficult since this idea is, as yet, untried and has no track record. Art is confident that, some day this will be a very successful and satisfying business venture once he can reach the right people with his idea. October 8, 1999. My son Ira has completed his treatments for lymphoma, both radiation and chemo, and is now on the road to a full recovery. Both MaryAnn and I want to thank everyone who had us in their prayers for Ira's recovery and well being. I guess there is something to be said for prayer and good wishes after all. |

Forty Years
I can still hear the homeroom bell
A few wrinkles have arrived today.
I get up each and every night;
Time's speeding up, I do declare.
I scan the mirror often now,
But wait! I'm not too old
My teeth are good - at least a few. | |

| Janet Meyer After high school I entered the Women's Army Corps for three years. It was a very interesting time for me. Having never been off Long Island, I went to Alabama, Georgia and spent most of those three years in Los Angeles, Calif. To all who have moved there, isn't it beautiful? After that I met my husband, (now my ex). We had a child who now has 2 beautiful children of his own. Over the years, my family was a foster family to a number of Vietnamese boat people. For the last few years I have been working for LILCO (now Keyspan) in the Gas Dept. Working on this committee for this reunion has been such fun. Making new friends from classmates and renewing friendships has been exciting. I am looking forward to this reunion and seeing everyone again. I hope you all come. | |
| Barbara Feuerstein Prins First of all, my compliments to the others on the committee for all they are doing in preparation for the reunion. The ideas, the talent, etc., are marvelous. This 40th will definitely be more fun than the 25th. It has been so great getting together with them during the planning stages. Some of us have changed a heck of a lot, and some hardly at all. However, I believe we have all matured in all respects very well! (Especially when I realize that I know some of the committee members since grade school - almost 50!! years ago.) I have been married to John for 33 years this summer. Remember, all through school, many people could hardly pronounce or spell my name Feuerstein? I always said someday my prince would come. Well, he did, but it's not the conventional spelling. It's Dutch. John is an ADR specialist in the insurance field. My older son Brian is 32 and off on his own. Howard is 28 and still lives at home - but I don't plan dinner around him any more. Over the years, I have enjoyed travel, Broadway as much as possible (last week I went to Shakespeare in the Park), cooking and baking, and the NY Times Crossword puzzles. Currently, I am between jobs. I've worked for many years in the administrative aspect of health care, but with my varied experiences, aptitudes, interests, volunteerism, I answer quite a few ads. To those of you who have no other plans Columbus Day weekend, or are still undecided, do try to join us on October 10. If you do have other commitments, send us a message on the web page about how life is treating you. Have a great summer - Barbara Feuerstein Prins | |
